June is Alzheimer's and Brain Health Awareness Month

June 20, 2021 is this year's summer solstice—it is the day with the most light. It is also the day to fight the darkness of Alzheimer's through fundraising. Across the globe, over 50 million people are living with Alzheimer’s disease. With no known cure, it is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. June is the month where we can come together to raise awareness, because the more people who know about Alzheimer's, the more who will be inspired to action.

Throughout June activities surrounding disease education, fundraising events, and campaigns to advocate on social media help to honor those living with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers, as well as encourage others to join in on the conversation.

Here are just a few things you can do to support ongoing Alzheimer’s care, research, and education:

  • Wear Purple as it is the official color of the Alzheimer’s Association. Throughout June, National Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, people wear purple to raise awareness and help fight Alzheimer’s. Purple clothing and accessories are available at Shop for a Cause.

  • Spread the Word about Alzheimer’s on social media to create awareness. Share your photos, stories and fundraising successes by using the hashtags #ENDAZL or #EndAlzheimers. On Facebook change your profile picture to purple so others get curious about the cause.

  • Donate to the ongoing research for care and support to help fight Alzheimer’s Disease.

  • Volunteer through one of the many opportunities offered through Alzheimer’s Association. Organize walks, take part in clinical trials, become an advocate, or virtual educator—you can make a difference.

  • Join A Walk this fall. All over the country, people are registering to Walk To End Alzehimer’s. Register and start fundraising today.

  • Be Informed and Share Your Knowledge. Discover truths about Alzheimer's disease by visiting alz.org/abam to learn and share information about the disease with others.

  • Get Screened.  Warning signs for Alzheimer’s disease can be detected decades before memory loss occurs. An early detection allows you to make lifestyle adjustments that can slow symptoms. Commit to regular exercise, healthy diet habits, and adopt a light therapy routine to put yourself on a road to strengthen your mental acuity.

...the more people who know about Alzheimer's, the more who will be inspired to action.

For those who are experiencing the devastation of Alzheimer’s and other dementias, whether a caregiver or someone who suffers from cognitive decline, help cannot come soon enough. Be a part of the progress and help raise awareness for Alzheimer’s and brain health this month.
